Our fan Yan has shared yet another story of the times he used to work for an online bookmaker as the office manager.
One day after the weekend I came to work. As usual, I checked the registrations, placed bets, turnovers and other important numbers. What I noticed was that on Friday a new player (Female, 32 years old – but most likely a fake identity) registered and made incredible huge turnovers in both online casino and sportsbook. For the first 3 days, the person must have been really hungry for betting, since the stake amounts were reaching almost 2 millions. The financial result was not so significant (considering the total stake amount) – “only” about £10 000 lost.
I have seen many times a scenario when a player comes big but then in 2 or 3 days he runs out of money and we see him never again. This was however different. The player logged in almost every day for 5 years, placed bets worth around £500 000 spending pretty much the whole day playing and sports betting. His luck was pretty much constant – by the end of each month the player lost 30k – 70k, only once she hit a jackpot of 250k. As for sports betting, this was simply the worst punter ever.
During the period I was working there, the income of this small and insignificant bookie became pretty much dependent on this particular player. Then the gambling law got tight and the bookie operating with the Maltese licence had to get a local one (expensive) or close the business down. As far as I know, they closed down and said goodbye the the VIP punter.
