The whole World is suffering. Many people are dying, but even more are suffering due to economical restrictions. It is estimated that the global GDP of 2020 is going to drop by at least 4.6%, however scenarios of the GDP drop reaching 10% are possible. People lose their jobs, many freelancers or businesses of any size will go bankrupt and for now the future promises nothing bright. In history, humankind has gone through worse periods and we can be sure that a complete healing will happen in a few months or years.
After the crisis is over many football fans will return to watch the game, but nothing will be the same again – ever. Many of them will lose somebody close to them and millions more will learn what poverty tastes like. These are the times when people need to see and feel some real action in a sense that those who have resources will look after those who don’t. There will most likely be very low tolerance for social media show off and those athletes who will not get involved in resolving the crisis will not be forgotten.
Recently many famous football players came to realize how big this is and people will remember if they act the wrong way. Posting bored videos on Twitter or Facebook, enjoying the security and comfort of earned millions will lead to paying a high price on popularity in the future. After the crisis is over, we will have 2 groups of famous athletes: Spoiled egocentric brats and super heroes. There will be most likely nothing in between – you helped or you didn’t give a damn.
Who is helping so far?
After just a few days we saw some big names coming out with support. Cristiano Ronaldo offered his hotel chains to accommodate the Corona patients, Messi, Guardiola etc. giving money, the whole team of Real Madrid with their support package. The list is getting bigger every hour and we hope that none of the big names will stay silent.
Human kind seems to be united like never before and people in the whole World finally feel like being on the same boat. Big conflicts involving the USA, Iran, Russia or North Korea seem insignificant now and rich people feel more compassion towards the poor ones than anytime in the past. Coronavirus has to be defeated in the whole world. If you leave one country out it will start to spread and kill again.
