What was said post-match?
In the post-match interview, Potter was asked about his thoughts on the fans’ reactions at the end. He replied, “I am a little bit perplexed to the reaction in the crowd at the end because the performance was fantastic against a team that like to dominate possession like to outrun you – they didn’t do that today.”
“They are entitled to their opinions but I disagree with them completely.
“We are sitting eighth in the Premier League but maybe I need a history lesson on this football club.”
When asked about his side’s lack of ruthlessness in front of goal, he said, “It’s frustrating, but that can happen sometimes in football.”
“You’ve got to look at the performance of the players, who were fantastic. We played really well, we created chances. We were brave with how Leeds defended. I am really happy with the way the team played.
“If we keep working towards it we will get there – we will be fine, we will score. Sometimes it doesn’t go in and that’s life. There are a lot of positives to take from the game.
“We did well, we created chances and did everything but score. You have to then take the clean sheet and the point.”
Man of the match, [player 9308200] also spoke post-match and said, “We would have liked to win, but were playing against a quality side. We tried to push but the goal didn’t come. On another day it would have. We tried our hardest and gave our all. We’ll keep working. It’s not easy to put the ball in the back of the net. We were unlucky. We’ll just look forward to the next game now.”
Were Brighton simply unlucky against Leeds United?
It was an engaging game of football as both sides are well known for their attacking tradition. In my opinion, [team 78] were the better side overall and should have got the three points. Not saying that [team 71] weren’t good because they also created a few chances, but Brighton had more opportunities to score.
The seagulls had could have scored a couple of goals but lacked a finishing touch. Potter’s side struck the bar on three occasions which shows the lack of fortune against Leeds United. Brighton dominated the game in terms of possession with 57% in their favour. They played through the Leeds press well but looked a bit confused in the final third.
The home side had 20 shots in total but had only four on target. They had six corners compared to Leeds’ one.
To be honest, I agree with [coach 452683] about the home fans. Under this manager, Brighton are reaching new heights. They are playing a brand of football that is exciting, and this season, they are 8th in the [league 8] despite their lack of ruthlessness.
Also, some of the players he has introduced and improved is another brilliant aspect of his management. The likes of Lamptey, [player 61780], [player 1494381] and [player 448448] and many other young players have progressed under Potter’s guidance. It’s clear that this manager is destined for big things, and soon, he could leave Brighton to take the next step in his career.
I understand their frustration due to the missed chances but to boo your side off after a superior performance to your opposition is not right. Graham’s anger is justifiable because he is doing an excellent job at Brighton.
