The timetable for re-launching the EPL is no clearer than it was a month ago when it interrupted the competition for the coronavirus spreading. This was stated by Karren Brady, executive director of the Hammers.
After talking to 20 league clubs, the Premier League management said it was the goal to finish this season, but added that while “all terms are hypothetical, the influence of COVID-19 will increase”. According to Brady, there are some important questions to be asked before the league restart, such as training the players, the presence of police at the matches, coronavirus testing, hygiene and health protocols.
“There is no dodging the possibility that all levels in the EFL as well as the Premier League will have to be cancelled and this season declared null and void because if the players can’t play the games can’t go ahead.
“The PL hopes that an interlude of three weeks from will enable it to restart but that may well be dreamland.
“Perhaps scrubbing the European Championship could provide more time to complete the season into the summer but that is also a giant ‘if’.
“What if the league cannot be finished? As games in both the PL and in the EFL are affected, the only fair and reasonable thing to do is declare the whole season null and void.
“Who knows who would have gone down or come up if the games have not actually been played in full? A huge blow to [team 8] who might be robbed of their first title in 30 years.” added Brady for the AP.
The Coronavirus numbers in the UK are still not showing any promise of bright tomorrows. As of Today there are over 114 500 registered cases and 14 464 confirmed deaths. We still see on average 5 000 new cases per day.
