After cancelling the football season in Netherlands are the French League 1 and League 2 officially cancelled as well. After Tuesday’s cabinet meeting, French Prime Minister Edouard Philppe said he would not be able to restart the 2019/2020 season. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the government extended the ban on organizing major sporting events until September.
“This season of professional sports in France will not be able to continue. Yes, it is mainly about football,” said Philippe.
Representatives of the French Football Association hoped that in mid-June the competition could be resumed, they wanted to finish it on July 25. The union must now decide whether to award a league title, whether someone will drop out of the competition and which clubs will represent the country in the new year of European competitions. At the top of the table is, with a 12-point lead, the reigning champion PSG. According to the French media, the new year of Ligue 1 could start in September. As for the recent period, 28 April 2020 is the date when the season abruptly ended.
France is on place number 4 in the World’s charts of Coronavirus pandemic. With over 165 000 confirmed cases and almost 24 000 deaths we however see some better numbers lately. The peak is over but the fight still takes weeks.
