25 rounds have been played and Arsenal are with 6 wins, 13 draws and 6 losses right in the middle of the table on position number 10. While in the season 2018/2019 has Arsenal missed the top 4 by only 1 point, in the current season the hopes are as good as lost. The decreasing form was obvious by the end of last season, where the last 3 matches got lost and now you can not even consider Arsenal being part of the traditional big 6. The thing is, Arsenal is getting worse and worse from year to year and big systematic changes desperately need to be made.
On the International level however we saw some great results. In the UEFA Europa League the Gunners lost to Chelsea in the very final with a convincing score 4-1.
The squad of Arsenal is simply not good enough
Coming back to the recent season 2019/2020. What are the biggest problems of Arsenal? As the question suggests, there is not just one problem you can fix and after that they will be on the top again. It is not like saying “they are missing a forward” and with a great one, there will be all great again.
With the current squad I know only about some 4 players that are good enough to bring the expected results. Besides Pierre Aubameyang, Héctor Bellerín, Bernd Leno and Kieran Tierney the squad needs some fresh blood, since the rest of the team is not good enough.
Lots of skepticism brought the record breaking £72m sign up of Nicolas Pepe, as the fourth most expensive transfer in Premier League history. The 24-year-old has signed in August 2019 a five-year contract with Arsenal and there were big hopes to bring the top 4. With the current results, there is only one thing to say. For £72m you could do a lot and you brought Nicholas Pépé?
