First Half

Tottenham Hotspur started the game with G. Bale in the starting eleven for the first time since his arrival. J. Hart made his debut in goal for Spurs with B. Davies captaining the side as a centre half alongside D. Sánchez Mina. New boy C. Alves Morais also made his debut upfront.

Spurs started the game well and controlled the game midfield. They moved the quickly, and potent movement for the front 4 was working well. L. Rodrigues Moura da Silva opened the scoring in 18th minute with debutant Carlos Vinicius grabbing the assist. Shortly afterwards a quick counter-attack from Spurs ended up with another goal as A. Andrade Cedeño scored an own goal by diverting a Gareth Bale cross.

Spurs dominated the first half in possession recording 55% of the ball. J. dos Santos Mourinho’s side took 5 shots with 2 of them on target. Creativity wasn’t a problem for Spurs as they created 3 big chances in the first half. They also registered an impressive 4 shots from inside the box and won 11 aerials duals.

The away side looked good in possession but were unable to penetrate a well-drilled backline. However, D. Thalhammer’s side still managed to take 4 shots out of which 2 were on target. Still, it was far from impressive as the away side didn’t create a single big chance in the whole half.

Second Half

Once again, Spurs started the half on the front foot penetrating the away backline. Struggling to make them count, Tottenham registered 8 shots with 3 of them on target. Interestingly, all the 8 shots were taken inside the box, which shows the increased cohesion among the players. Finally, Spurs got the third goal coming from their Korean star H. Son. Vinicius recorded his second assist by cushioning the ball down for the Korean to send it goalwards.

LASK Linz looked much improved in the second half. More movement in the final third and quick transitions saw a few worrying signs for Tottenham. Especially after that West Ham game, Spurs had a spell under pressure, but LASK failed to capitalise on their chances.
